Thomas Saxey is an experienced attorney, licensed in Florida and California, whose career blends nearly two decades of courtroom work with over a decade of military service as an Air Force Judge Advocate. His legal background includes prosecuting violent felony criminal cases, advising military commanders across the globe, and helping Florida families resolve deeply personal matters through mediation and family law. As both an attorney and a veteran, Tom brings a steady, thoughtful, service-centered approach to every client he represents.
Military Legal Experience
Tom has served in the United States Air Force and Florida Air National Guard since 2012, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. As a Guardsman, he supervises and trains legal advisors who support homeland defense operations executed by NORAD and U.S. Northern Command. He also provides advice and counsel to servicemembers navigating divorce, child custody issues, and estate planning. His assignments have taken him from California to the United Kingdom to Afghanistan, where he advised commanders on operational law, targeting, intelligence oversight, investigations, and rules of engagement. His distinguished service includes awards such as the Meritorious Service Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal.
Civilian Legal Background
Alongside his military service, Tom has spent 18 years as a prosecutor handling felony criminal cases, including domestic violence, DUI, complex evidence-driven investigations, and violent gang-related homicide and assault crimes. His experience evaluating evidence, preparing witnesses, and guiding victims through difficult proceedings strengthens his ability to counsel and advocate for individuals facing emotionally charged legal matters. This foundation informs his family law and mediation practice, where he helps clients navigate divorce, custody, and support issues with clarity and compassion.
Professional Expertise & Education
Tom’s legal training includes a Juris Doctor from New York Law School and multiple advanced military education programs, including Air War College, Air Command and Staff College, and a Master’s of Military Operational Art & Science degree with a concentration in joint warfare. He is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator and is a member of the state bar in Florida and California, as well as the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. His broad experience—ranging from writing operational policy for senior military leaders to teaching trial advocacy to navigating divorce, custody, and estate planning issues—reflects a career guided by service, integrity, and lifelong learning.
